Re: 4AD Singer ignition switch
the one with no lettering was chrome and Earl swore he got it that way from the dealer when he purchased the car. I wish I knew where those 2 cars ended up when he passed away, they were a treasure trove of originality.

Re: 4AD Singer ignition switch
I'd like to know who decided that brown was the color of the lettering ? I have seen LOTS of 4AD's including 2 originals still owned by the original owner and never seen brown. Earl's cars were my pattern in the 1980's for restoring my car as he owned a his-and-hers pair of 4AD's they purchased new,...

Re: Another Pre-War Singer in North America...
glad he is finally moving the car on to someone who might get it on the road regularly. I have spoken with him for well over a decade and helped him get parts over the years but he never seemed to stay interested in the car, just brief occasional interest.

Re: about time...GARAGE FINISHED
nope, sorry you are not catching up... I will be finished this weekend, the original garage that was not insulated/drywalled was done over the holidays and its painted and done. I even moved the 1.5 back into the garage after a month and half out in the weather on Tuesday night. This weekend I insta...

Re: Active Topics Option
Good question on active topics, I never use it so I did not know it was broken with the new version I installed a little over 2 months ago, I will look into it. On the images, while you are posting a message below the box where you type are 2 tabs Options | Upload Attachment, if you click on upload,...

Re: Building spark plug wires
you could plate the block like we do in the pre-war Singer's. Make a metal plate that covers the crack, drill and tap the block and put the plate on, its a very ugly and permanent fix. But I would recommend a new block.

Re: Building spark plug wires
You 2 can talk on the phone (as if you need my permission) but remember there are others out there with cracked blocks that are REALLY interested in this sealer for their cracked 1.5 Litre Singer's (the green car next to my name) so keep that information coming.

Re: Building spark plug wires
the sealer trick should work, I would try that one first.
As to finding a new block, only a block ? no crank, no rods, just a bare block ? bring a weedwacker next time you are in S. Calif. odds are you will find one in my yard, they are just too expensive to ship.

Re: Building spark plug wires
NO WELDING !!! Let me repeat that NO WELDING !!! These blocks can not be welded no matter what anyone says, they are too high in chromium and they will become brittle even if you have the blocks first heated bright red which is the correct way. The proper way to fix it is with metal stitching, I hav...

Re: Building spark plug wires
to repair the drive end you need to remove the starter.
1. make sure the starter drive is not stuck, try rotating the motor by hand a little bit.
2. did you remember that polarity on these toys is backwards ?
3. starter ??? these things don't need a starter !!! get out your hand crank
