1936 Le Mans - oil and fuel dip sticks

I am sure my oil level dip stick is wrong. Does any one have a photo of one with measurements ?

Like wise the petrol dip stick is missing. I will make one, what did the originals look like and how were they marked !

Re: Anti Freeze ?

I see, Waterless is not the way to go. I like to use my cars even during the winter, so I don't want to drain the system.

Is there a preferred normal anti freeze ?

It is that time of years to check/change your anti freeze.

Has anyone tried the waterless coolant ?

Re: John Horne

I am a late comer to Singer Ownership. When I needed a replacement 1st gear earlier this year I messaged the club and John replied. He had a LM gearbox that had on the shelf for 40 years, condition unknown as it has come out of a scrapped car. He was so helpful with advice about how to fit it and wh...

Re: Jaeger speedometer

I have local guy repairing my speedo. After its time in Malaysia all the rubber components had melted . I too have problem with the odometer. Paul think he can tweek the ratchet over slightly to avoid the worn egde of the wheel.

Sorry 1936 Le Mans hood frame

Has any one photos of an original hood frame and how they fix to the body?

How is the frame and windows best stored on board while not being used ?

Re: Singer Le Mans gearbox noise, update

I was kindly offer a complete gearbox by David Freeth, that had been on his shelf for 40 years. We have turned it over manually and given it a clean up. We will refit it tomorrow and fingers crossed it will be noise free.

Re: What did I do this weekend ?

I cleaned the spokes with Autosol and wirewool. Polishing and laquering is a good idea. I have just received a new bench polisher so I will give that a go. The rubber rim seems fine.

Re: What did I do this weekend ?

I'd echo Colin's suggestion also. A chrome spray over a first coat of flat black should do a good job. That's a nice original 'wobbly spoke' Ashby Brooklands steering wheel. The spokes are unfortunately steel, unlike the Blumels version which has stainless steel spokes. Blumels licensed the Ashby d...

Chrome effect spray

Some of the steering wherl spokes have lost their chrome. Has anyone tried these chrome effect sprays. The youtube videos look very effective but there are mixed reports on durability ?

Re: What did I do this weekend ?

As the weekends now roll into week days. I have removed the gearbox to sort out the 1st gear. So while the interior was partially striped I took the opportunity to remove the rest. It had got severly faded in its time in Singapore. So I removed the rest and will prep and colour change to match the c...

Re: Singer Le Mans gearbox noise, update

I have used cold laser welding before to repair a rear diff, so that is always an option.
