Re: Fuel Filler Rubber Gromet
Hi, I bought one for my Roadster several years ago via the Singer Club in the UK and unfortunately do not have a direct source for a grommet that I know would be a perfect fit. However, with some web searching I found this US site that seems to have several models that might be usable. Especially th...

Re: Is this rear bumper original?
Hi, I agree with Mike that the bumper and the inside strip both look correct to the 4AD. You can find some pictures of the bumpers in my car here http://www.guru-group.fi/~kabu/index.php?option=com_joomgallery&func=viewcategory&catid=27&startpage=2&Itemid=61#category Best Regards, Pe...

Re: 4AD stalling
Hi, Another potential scenario; Does the fuel level on the tank has any effect on this behavior? It could also be caused by the fuel moving in the tank during the right turn. I don't quite recall how the internal structure of the tank is, but there might be also be something that is loose inside the...

Re: Windscreen wiper blades
Hi, In my understanding the 4AD has straight blades that are attached to the wiper arm with a conical rubber peg, at least this is what I had/have on my 4AD. Similar blades and attachment are used also on some other British cars from the same era, like MG TC. Seems like you can get these blades from...

Hi, Here is an article that you may find useful. It is written by Bill Haverly, a long time Singer Roadster registrar from ASCO (Association for Singer Cars Owners) from the UK. http://www.guru-group.fi/~kabu/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=179:singer-tools&catid=52:articles...

Re: 52 4AD door hinges
I doubt if any direct replacements are available, but these undrilled and unbent blanks seems to be of correct size and shape. They would need to be bent to correct shape and then drill mounting holes to correct positions. https://www.vintagecarparts.co.uk/products/688-door-hinge-self-aligning Best ...

Hi, There are some detail photos on my website at http://www.guru-group.fi/~kabu/index.php?option=com_joomgallery&func=viewcategory&catid=16&Itemid=61 Apparently you have the grass window type side screens and not the plastic window type. Both types were available, the plastic ones are s...

Re: Tools under the Bonnet
Hi, There was an article about Singer tools that was published on ASCO magazine in 1989 available on the Singster website that is unfortunately no more available in the net. I copied the tools information to my hard disk some years back and made it now available on my web site. You can find it here ...

Re: Water Pump Seals
Hi Klaus, That is correct, there are no seals near the bearings, just the thread on the axle (called oil retainer in the picture below). The water seal is between the impeller and the bearing housing shown in your pictures. Below is a cross sectional view from the pump, taken from the SM1500 Technic...

Re: Seat Restoration - "Front Seat Repairs/recreation series" by Ashley Crossland
Hi Darcy, Yes, it does seem that the Singster site has not been maintained and that domain is now in use by other parties. However, I was able to find a copy of the page from Wayback Machine, a web archive that stored ole web page data. I believe this is the article you may be looking for: https://w...

Hi, Great photos, thanks for sharing them Peter! The photos show good amount of details, and higher angle view show details that are not visible on most of the period Singer photos I have seen. Couple of odd things in the photos - Two of the cars have quite odd high bumper over-riders. I do not reme...

Re: 4AD gearbox sticking to first gear
Hi, I did find a solution to this problem. After taking the gearbox apart, I concluded that the first gear sleeve occasionally moved so much that the spring loaded ball retainers that hold the sleeve in the neutral position when the gear is not on, managed to came out and lock the sleeve in the firs...

Hi Klaus, Unfortunately I am not able to give you any clear reason why you might be experiencing this kind of a problem. Couple of ideas that you should maybe check. Have you checked the condition and sufficient play of the steering box screw end bearings (part 33 in this exploded view http://singer...
