Re: New Project
Superb! In its day this car could compete with the likes of lagonda that cost ten times as much.

Re: 1953 California 4AD
Hi Avery, that looks like a very original and well looked after car. The paint looks like a cut back with t-cut and a rub down with polish would bring back the shine. As far as originality goes, it depends on what you want to do with the car - drive it, show it at concours events or turn it into a m...

Re: Le Mans recreation
Mine had a tab. It helps to hold it in place whilst fitting the sump.

Re: Aluminium/aluminum bonnet/hood
No problem Colin. I am not familiar with steel bonnets. I remember the one off my 1.5 Sports was very heavy when I sent it to Nigel for painting. Aluminium sounds like a great idea. I bought a whole sheet of brass in the 1970s and don’t remember it being very expensive. However I was shocked to see ...

Re: Aluminium/aluminum bonnet/hood
Brass? No, the ‘35 has a separate brass hinge with silver steel rod. There are no side hinges as the bonnet is made from only two pieces.
I suspect brass rod will be an expensive option. Stainless steel will be cheaper. I think the diameter is 1/4”.

Re: New Project
The whole interior is looking fabulous! I wouldn’t pad the sides of the front seats, just the tops and then tension the sides carefully. The back seat looks in remarkable condition. Is that felt padding? You must be very pleased with the results so far. I found that the hidem binding required tacks ...

Re: Aluminium/aluminum bonnet/hood
Sounds like a plan! I assume the bonnet is to replace the original steel panels rather than the aluminium ones fitted to the’35 models (which had separate brass hinge). Stainless steel might be an alternative.

Re: New Project
I’ve been looking back at your thread and you have to admit you have come a long way!
Your seat cover looks superb but, like you, I suspect you don’t have enough stuffing. This picture of another six suggests there is much more padding.

Re: New Project
1/2” needle felt? Maybe two layers. You can also use it to pad the wheel arches. 54” wide from Segals. About £12 per metre.

Re: Wiring guidance
Perhaps this will help. It is for a car that still uses a three brush dynamo and the horns have been wired through a relay for safety and to free up a terminal in the junction box. The wiring colours are original for 1935. You will not need the dynamo terminals of the SLC2 if you upgrade to a voltag...

Re: New Project
I’ve never used a piping foot but used a zipper foot instead. I notice that Segal’s in Salford stock 1/2” polyester Dacron wadding and what they call ‘needle felt’. This is where I got my original supplies from in the 1970s. I remember he was very helpful to a young lad. It sounds like you are enjoy...

Re: New Project
I think you need some padding between the springs and cover. I used thick felt (a bit like old fashioned carpet underlay). Looking good Colin!
