I have no information on this car, but presumably a Nine from the 1934-35 period:

Re: More running issues
A couple of thoughts for you: you don't mention using the choke. The last few days have been dramatically colder than back in October which means the air is going to be denser and effectively will give you a weaker mixture. It is not unreasonable in cold weather to need the choke pulled out a short ...
Re: US8155
But when you were out on the road, you would have a penny in your pocket, but probably not a core plug in your emergency spares. I've done that repair by the roadside on at least three occasions (not in Singers, but a penny was a universal repair item!).

A simple gearbox behind the rev counter should resolve both ratio and direction - anyone got a box of Meccano gears?

Re: Registration number search.
OY seems plausible; issued by Croydon between 1931 and 1934, 1933 numbers ran from 4629 to 7571, and 1934 from 7972 to 9999. Alternative letters like OU (Southampton 1928-31) and OV (Birmingham 1931-32 only) don't fit the time-line. Try altering the contrast on your scan to see if the number becomes...

Re: 1932 9 Sports - Fuel Tank
Have a word with your local radiator specialist. Over the years I have had several petrol tanks made with their help. They will be able to transfer any fittings from the old tank, and so long as you have dimensions they will be able to make an accurate copy. If you are in the East Midlands, then I c...

Re: New Singer Juniors
The VO letters were allocated to the whole of Nottinghamshire, so the chances of VO 5235 being sold through Neville's is fairly slim. Just a couple of years later there were 22 Austin dealers alone in Nottinghamshire; there would be fewer Singer dealers, but probably well over a dozen. Still, it's a...

New Singer Juniors
In my capacity as editor of an Austin Seven magazine, I have just received this wonderful photo of Neville's Garage in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire. In addition to the most important cars (the Austins!) it appears to show four brand-new Singer Juniors. The two Austins and two of the Juniors have near-c...

Re: New Singer Porlock Project
... You can just make out a red stripe running down the back of the body which made me think it has had a sporty life. That sounds more like a boy-racer's touch from the 1960s  I had got my eye on your car when it was for sale in Doncaster, and it never crossed my mind that it had a competitio...

Re: New Singer Porlock Project
YSL 502 is a recent age-related number, probably dating from the last twenty years. It's most unlikely the car has had any competition history in that time; do you know what it's original registration number was?

Presumably that's an Australian-built body, in which case original factory colours hardly apply!
