thanks a lot,
unfortunately my daughter is 45 and , well rather "fluffy",!
the mirror and flashlight worked after removing floorboard.
i marked the fly wheel and the fan belt pulley for next time.

how on earth do you see the top mark on the fly wheel with the engine in car ???
or any other way to find it (apart from a finger in the spark plug hole) !

i managed to tap off the starter ring ( actually some serious banging with a larger hammer and a chisel !) the flywheel and ring was normal room temperature. after cleaning off rust and filing the inner ring edge ( facing the flywheel) it was heated it up until you can not hold it without gloves, ta...

latest update on the stalling engine: i discovered that the issue were from the ignition / light switch. i gave it a good spray with contact cleaner, worked it on / of light and the ignition key until it all dried up. it has worked flawless since the. ! just to be safe i bought a new switch as back ...
