gas tank sending unit assistance
Hello all! Can anyone tell me if this sending unit ( #11 on the schematic ) is the same as found on my 52 Singer 4AD? http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=29285&SortOrder=15 I'm just guessing it may be based on the appearance and some inconclusive web searching. Thanks i...

Re: Oil Filter and new baby
Thanks Mike. I wish I had not had to remove the filter. I could not figure out how to get the starter out otherwise. Having a new filter would be great but more than anything I need the gaskets to get it sealed up tight. It looks from the manual that there are two gaskets one at the top of the filte...

Oil Filter and new baby
I removed the oil filter because I had to replace the starter the other day. Now the filter leaks like crazy. Anyone know where I can get an oil filter and gaskets for my 1952 4AD. Many thanks in advance. Tom Ps We had a baby boy last month his name is Stuart and he and mom are doing great. Another ...

Re: How do you get that master cylinder nut off?
Thank you all for the support. The nut came off with nothing more than a good pull on a three foot pipe on the end of my biggest Crescent wrench. The biggest problem was keeping the master cylinder in the vice and keeping the vice from being ripped off the workbench. Once I stabilized everything it ...

Photos from St Louis All British Car Show
See if you can find my Singer. Hint it is the 3rd place winner of Class Y "British Other". I was doing great until that Morgan pulled up next to me! I knew I had no chance against the Tiger. Actually I left before they handed out awards thinking I did not have a chance in the world. I plac...

Re: How do you get that master cylinder nut off?
Mike that is good to know. I thought I would need to remove that nut to replace the main seal. When I inspected the master cylinder there was NO main seal in it. There was just a low pressure seal on the end of the piston closest to the push rod. The other seal was just gone. So I guess it is in pie...

How do you get that master cylinder nut off?
There is a big nut on the end of the master cylinder. How do you get that thing off? I soaked it in penetrating oil and used a good size breaker on a good size wrench, but it is not going anywhere. If this were on my boiler pipes I'd heat it up with a torch, then put a 3 foot breaker on an pipe wrenc...

Re: 4AD front brake spring placement
I tried a few more things today. I considered the flexible hoses being the problem so I switched them. There was no change. I also disassembled and cleaned out the wheel cylinders on the lagging side. The cylinders were clean, and the seals looked like new. After I reassembled the cylinders I notice...

Re: 4AD front brake spring placement
My fahter-in-law replaced the rubber hoses about 6 years ago (when he owned the car) and he had been using Dot 3 with the new hoses. I think back then the hoses were from either Moss or Kipp. We assumed DOT3 was adequate for the modern hoses. At the same time I helped him replace the master cylinder...

Re: 4AD front brake spring placement
Thanks Paul. I searched like crazy all over the internet but I could not find any picture like that. That looks like the way mine are set up. Which is good and bad. My next step is to have the drums turned.
Thanks again for the assistance.
Tom

4AD front brake spring placement
I have no diagram of properly installed front brake springs. Mine are set up so the springs run from the backing plate to the brake shoe. The one parts manual I have clearly shows the upper shoe connected to the lower shoe not the backing plate. But the holes on the shoes do not line up, to make thi...

Re: Lug nuts, parking brake and oil ?'s
Thanks Mike the trader article is great. I just got the oil you recommneded this evening. Also I like your thinking about the car and more driving and more speed...BUT let me tell you a bit more about the car. The tires were last replaced in 1964 and virtually every rubber bushing on this car has tu...

Lug nuts, parking brake and oil ?'s
I am bringing my 52 4AD to an all British car show that is about 12 miles from my house. These miles are like dog years for my Singer. So I am preparing for this journey. (The farthest from home this car has been in the past 30 years is about 2 miles.) Anyway I'm preparing the safety items. I did a ...

Re: looking for fender lights
Thanks Paul. That really helps. I just took possession of the car from my father-in-law. I monkeyed around so much with the car in his garage that he finally gave it to me. It was in the back of his garage for pretty much the past 30 years.I'm excited to have it in my garage and running. I just got ...
