Re: Where to find a radiator cap

Not threaded. Looks like a "normal" radiator cap. Pictures enclosed. As mentioned, it's not original but something off an Audi or similar.

Any type of workable replacement would be perfect.

Thanks

Where to find a radiator cap

All, My 54AD has been spitting at me when she warms up. Runs okay but squirting fluid. I believe I have it traced to the radiator cap. The seal is split and not sure how well it's holding pressure, if at all. It may also just be a wrong-fitting cap. Surely not original unless the Brits and Germans g...

Engine trouble

All, Having some issues with '54 4AD. The previous owner did a sloppy job on the engine rebuild (that's being polite). Water pump is leaking, getting oil in the cylinders, and overall just a poor job. I'm trying to avoid tearing down the whole engine, but may need too. Regardless, any have good sour...

Re: Looking for parts '54 4AD

All,

Thanks for the responses. I'll check on the shaft. My original suspicion was a suspension issue. Also will check on the brake rebuild v austin's.

Will let you know what happens.

Looking for parts '54 4AD

All, Took the '54 to my local car expert and he’s given me a list that may be a challenge. Hoping folks can provide suggestions for replacement parts or sourcing original/compatible parts. List is as follows: • Driveshaft, whole assembly – current is bent and rubbing against the bottom of the body. ...

Re: Valve Job - Cam, Lifters, Etc - Where to buy

Update for those who care...engine is with the machine shop and waiting for KIP motors to provide gaskets. Hoping they can cut some new one's. They originally said end of August. Once they arrive let's hope nothing else is a problem and we can start driving!

Re: Valve Job - Cam, Lifters, Etc - Where to buy

Thanks to the ASCO chaps in the UK, I was able to secure a new CAM, rockers, valves, guides, etc. I owe them big time for being able to find the parts.

Arrived today and delivered to the shop, hopefully we'll get her back late next week.

Valve Job - Cam, Lifters, Etc - Where to buy

All, Well this 4AD is nothing but trouble - finally have the brakes working, manifold welded, carb rebuilt (twice), and now that's it all back together it runs terrible. Popped open the valve cover and #2 lobe on the cam is worn about 1/2 and #3 on lobe is non-existent, literally worn to nothing. An...

Re: 4AD gaskets - manifold and exhaust pipe

Wanted to give those interested an update - received the gasket set from Kip Motors, WAY FAST, ordered Thursday and delivered Monday AM. Was a mostly-complete set but misses one, no biggie, we made it ourselves. Leaks are all gone, now just need to get that dang carb tuned. As a reminder, it didn't ...

Re: 4AD gaskets - manifold and exhaust pipe

Thanks all. I found Kip Motor Company. They make gaskets and have templates for a 1500. A little pricey but not crazy. Ordered, we'll see how they look, work, and what they are made from. Let's hope it stops the leak and I can actually drive this thing.

4AD gaskets - manifold and exhaust pipe

All, Had to pull the intake/exhaust manifold for repair. Received it back and trying to find a place I can acquire a gasket set. E-bay didn't turn up anything (maybe a guy in UK, maybe). Other searches have also resulted in a goose-egg. Searched the forum and what I find is many have made your own. ...

Re: Carb Help - Rebuild, wrong carb?

Pekka, Thanks for the info. I did check out the oldengine.org site and they have great diagrams, but few specs on those particular models. I agree, the 30FAIO is nearly impossible to find. I don't mind keeping the B32-pbi-5 and rebuilding it, as long at is can be used with this engine and not cause ...

Carb Help - Rebuild, wrong carb?

All, The 4AD is coming along. The brakes were a wreck and thanks to Petrol Motors in Van Nuys we were able to rebuild the MC, fix the rear rods, and make the proper adjustments; we have brakes again. He also fixed the steering. The carb is a mess still, it leaks like a sieve and the car is running q...

Re: Brake uprade - safety

Thanks for the info. The master cylinder is shot so need to pull and rebuild it - leaking pretty badly. The rear driver-side union was welded at the backing-plate. Was able to loosen it, now just need to re-thread it and reconnect everything. I've inquired at a local shop who did my Mustang and Will...

Brake uprade - safety

All, Thanks for the info on the grounding. I received the car and it is a beauty (and is positive ground). Needs a simple tune-up and should run beautifully....except for the braking. I own a good number of classic cars (this is my first British) and with each one that was not a complete numbers-mat...
