Re: Le Mans prop shaft troubles.

Peter.

Did you rebuild the UJ in your blog spot? If so I would appreciate some pointers.

Re: Le Mans prop shaft troubles.

Thanks for your interest Peter. Yes it is the UJ's they are the original Hardy Spicer units with the metal covering cowl. The wear is not so much a bearing wear, but a side to side wear, which manifests itsself in particular, in a coasting situation. Unlike the next edition of these units, they are c...

Le Mans prop shaft troubles.

400 odd miles and slowly the issues are being resolved, charging fixed, converted the dynamo to a two brush system and installed a regulator, great fun refurbishing the regulator, eventually found the "how to info" on the net. Carbs now fuel tight and slow running somewhat better. The prop...

Cape Town teething troubles

Firstly attached are a couple of shots of the latest for the car is now registered and on the road, wow!! The major item now remaining is the upholstery as at the moment it consists of foam covered with an old curtain. On the road the car runs quite well the chassis straightening and replacement of t...

Cape Town update

Attached is the latest, I claim only the ivory paint my next door resident made so much fuss about my painting that the maroon was done by a professional ( perhaps it was best anyway)

Re: Le Mans steering boxes

As promised attached are some photos of the Datsun box,sub-frame, support bracket and spacers.
Everything appears OK, no slack in the steering, wheels turn full lock, left and right, I am quite really very pleased, only the test of driving it will confirm my belief.

Re: Le Mans steering boxes

I started off with a question, and can now give an answer. I was very generously given the opportunity when visiting Melbourne recently to drive Trevor's car and the steering was superb! That did it, I was determined to at least try to fit a modern box, in my searches there was much sucking of cheek...

Le Mans steering boxes

I am enquiring if there is any experience in replacing the original Singer box with a unit from a Datsun/Nissan vehicle. My original box despite my best efforts has really had it. I have been talking to the MG boys ( I know its really not done!) and many of the TC owners have done the swop without t...

Re: Stone Guards....

John. I've met a couple of owners who have had them made and they say they are difficult. The attached photo shows a reconstructed guard, apparantly "it was the most difficult job I have done" I have the same problem and I rather suspect its going to be "a nice to have" but will ...

Re: lower section of wood frame

Hi Mike. I don't know if this will help, however this is what I did. Although I found some ash I could not find size suitable for that bottom frame, so I decided to laminate the thing using thin marine ply and marine glue. I had the remains of one side from which I drew up the shape, made up some br...

Re: car is falling apart faster than I can take it apart

Hi Peter. Have I finished the woodwork? Well yes and no, I have certainly finished the front to the point where ally covered ply for the firewall and the footwells is all in place. The back end of the car is really in very good condition, however the nearside wheel arch will have to be redone, but I...

Re: car is falling apart faster than I can take it apart

Strength to your elbow Mike. It would take me until Christmas to just get the measurements right, actually I never get the measurements right. I am in Australia at the moment visiting the kids and have made contact with Singer souls here in Brisbane and also in Melbourne where we are going next. I h...
