He may have been. His member number was 25 if I’m not mistaken.

Re: 1953 California 4AD

I ended up ordering a new reservoir. Got it installed and rebuilt the wheel cylinders and master cylinder. Took it out for the first real drive.

Re: 1953 California 4AD

Finally got a chance to do some work. I ordered brake fluid, lines, and rebuild kits for the brake master cylinder and the wheel cylinders from Kip Motors. The fan I ordered off Amazon. If anyone was curious, it’s a 41” circumference and 5/8” wide. I used this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0126MW9...

Re: 1953 California 4AD

Is there a source for the fan belt? Or do I need to get a generic one?

The car was dropped off today. Can’t wait to get my hands dirty. Can someone tell me if these pistons belong to the 4AD? The box came with the car but I’m not sure if they were from a different vehicle.

Re: 1953 California 4AD

Must be sweet being so close to the supplier! Or should I say it must have been sweet. Thanks, I’ll order from them. Got a call from the driver today and the car is still set to be delivered tomorrow. I’ll post some pictures of the interior tomorrow afternoon.

Re: 1953 California 4AD

Thanks for the info Mikey. There seems to be a wide price range online for Castrol DOT 4 and the bottles have varying labels/part numbers. Does any Castrol DOT 4 work or is it a specific blend I’m after?

Re: 1953 California 4AD

The first order of business when the Singer gets here on Saturday is to flush the brake fluid. Kip motors lists Castrol DOT 4 fluid and in the description it says this: “ NOTE: USE ONLY CASTROL DOT 4 BRAKE FLUID! The seals & hoses in your brake system are made from natural rubber which is only c...

Re: 1953 California 4AD

Ahh, good eye Peter I didn’t catch that. And I’ll look through the letters Mikey, pretty cool that you knew him. If you do find any pictures I’d love to see them or hear any stories you may have with him. I believe you have my email already.

IMG_7032.jpeg IMG_7033.jpeg IMG_7031.jpeg IMG_7028.jpeg Took a few minutes to lay out all of the documents, booklets, manuals, pamphlets, letters, etc that my grandfather had kept on the 4AD. Pretty amazing chunk of history. I even found the original bill of sale, but what’s interesting is it’s fro...

Re: 1953 California 4AD

Good news, the car just got picked up by the carrier. Should be here by the weekend and then the fun starts. Since the side panels won’t attach we opted to tape up the openings to keep out any potential rain.

Re: 1953 California 4AD

I didn’t think to account for the thickness of the wire. Thank you for that tip. Maybe modern stuff is the way to go. On a different subject, my grandfather was a NASOC member and I found a green badge in a plastic baggie in the car. It also had a paper with his name and a number on it. I assume tha...
