Re: Le Mans recreation

I was reluctant to remove the large pipe on the oil pump. Indeed there is not enough space for a spanner due to the radiator. So I tried first by opening the cam cover (was only put on the day before, so easy to do), and undid the coupling towards the cam shaft. I found a smal funnel which fitted ne...

Re: Le Mans recreation

So in the mean time I took Mike's advice and brazed a tab onto the oil filter. If fits neatly under the oil tube (see photos below). I put back the sump and filled it with oil, but no oil pressure yet when running the starter motor. I read elsewhere on the forum I need to prime the system by putting...

Re: Le Mans recreation

Thanks for the feedback. I’m going to add a tab in that case. Will see how to attach it.
Will keep you informed on my progress.

Re: Le Mans recreation

Continued work and removed the sump from the engine. I removed also the oil filter (mesh), since I got an new one to replace it. To my surprise the old one has a tab on the top used to locate it on the oil suction pipe/disc. The new one doesn’t. Does anybody know if the tab on the top is a modificat...

Re: Le Mans recreation

Sorry for not having followed up this thread for so long, but the registration of the car is taking a very long time. The next hurdle is a technical inspection, for which I thought pre-1960s cars to be exempt in France, but apparently not for the 1st registration. In the mean time I reverted to simp...

Oil temperature gauge

I intend to change the oil of my Singer Lemans for the fitst time. To my surprise the sensor end of the oil temperature gauge is fitted to the sump plug (didn’t find another at least). If I undo the plug, the lead (it seems to work without electricity, no clue how) will be twisted several times. The...

Re: Le Mans recreation

Thank you Phillip: I really like the photograph of both cars side to side; indeed a lucky man to have both. Maybe one day I will see an original TT car in the metal, so I can see how much differences there between my Replica and the originals. I am quite impressed by the cost for attending such a ra...

Re: Le Mans recreation

Peter, Phillip, Thank you so much for your encouragement and for the beautiful pictures of Dave Hardwick’s car. My car doesn’t nearly look so clean, but it has some patina shall we say. Thank you for the tips on the oil Phillip, I’ll pay attention when ordering. Just for fun: photograph when it was ...

Re: Le Mans recreation

Hi Phillip, I never thought of it being a real Replica, thanks for pointing that out. I feel all of a sudden far less guilty to ask the forum for help, it makes it sound far less of a 'frankenstein' car like that  I have seen some of the Lemaitre car documentation as well, and indeed the previ...

Re: Le Mans recreation

The Laguna Seca event seems to have some lovely cars competing. Too bad it’s somewhat far from where I live.
Thanks for sharing though.

Re: Le Mans recreation

That would be great if you have access to that data. The old Dutch registration was DE-63-98. I contacted the Dutch Singer club and I am in the process of becoming a member, but it will likely take untill after the summer before the process is competed. As Peter implied, I think I would enjoy partic...

Re: Le Mans recreation

There is very little history supplied with the car, so I don’t know. I bought it in Belgium, but It was imported in the Netherlands in 1990 and stayed there until early this year. There are a few stickers on the car from car events over the last 2 decades, but I know nothing more. It would be nice t...

Re: Le Mans recreation

The Lemaitre car was the other car I considered. And that one comes with lots of history. This one was presumably rebodied end of the 1970s in the style of the replica cars and uses an underslung chassis instead of the high chassis of the Lemaitre. It also has a significantly later chassis number (n...

Re: Le Mans recreation

Thank you Mike. I’ll try to reach put to one of them.

As soon as a have decent photographs of the car, I’ll share them on this thread. Perhaps someone recognises the car and may be able to uncover part of its history.

Le Mans recreation

Hello all, New forum member here. I am also new to pre-war motoring and in particular to Singer cars. Since some time I've been looking in getting a Singer 9 Le Mans. I found 2 cars for sale in the Netherlands, both with non-factory bodies. I finally decided to get the one with a Replica body recrea...
