Re: 1934 Windscreen Posts / staunchness

Sorry Darcy - I haven't reached the stage yet where I can fit the windscreen. Hopefully within another month... or two... or three... I'll let you know when I reach that stage, if you haven't beaten me to it.

Re: Tyre fitting help please

I successfully fitted four tyres shortly after my initial post. This was over a year ago so my memory is a little hazy but I recall the following points: Use a safe lubricant (i.e. guaranteed not to harm rubber or butyl) copiously. I used a 250 ml tub and a bit of the appropriately named 'Tyre Lube'...

Re: 1934 Windscreen Posts / staunchness

Hello Darcy I recently restored the windscreen posts/pivots for my 1934 Le Mans 9. A couple of images of the original parts and some working sketches I made are attached. I needed to hand fettle the parts as I went along, especially to ensure that the tabs on the upper arms were a good fit in the lo...

Re: Le Mans tools and tool deck

Hello David and others. Re. your queries: I only have definitive information about the front section of the deck. I would be grateful for more information about the rear section, e.g. the overall shape and dimensions, which tools were mounted on it and where. 1) Judging from the photographs, the scr...

Re: Le Mans tools and tool deck

Hello David (aka cdk84) et al Sorry for my delayed response; I've only just caught up with the forum. Give me a week or so and I'll do my best to address your queries. One problem here in the south of Spain at the moment is that my workshop reaches 90+°F by about 9.30am which does tend to slow one d...

Re: Le Mans Light Blue

Hello David & Phillip Thank you both for your contributions to this thread. Every one will have their own view on to what extent a classic car (or a motor bike or whatever) should be restored, if at all. My own personal target for my car is to try to restore or re-create it using available resou...

Re: Le Mans Light Blue

Hi David & Phillip

Thanks for your helpful replies. I would appreciate receiving the colour code if/when either or both of you are able to get it analysed.

Does either of you, or anyone, have information on the colour of the original opholstery/trim?

Regards
David B.

Re: Le Mans Light Blue

Hi Phillip I eventually received about a half dozen responses to my query. Many thanks to yourself and all the others who took the trouble to reply. Several people suggested possible approximations including Austin Leyland ‘Iris Blue’ BMC paint code BU12 (used on Sprites and MGAs) but my best lead s...

Le Mans Light Blue

Can anyone please help with the RAL, BS or any other colour code for an approximation of the 'Light Blue' used on the body of some 1934/35 Le Mans.
Thanks,
David

Tyre fitting help please

I have just restored two wire wheels (Le Mans with offset spokes) and would appreciate any suggestions about the procedure for tyre fitting, e.g. which side (spoke or no spoke) do I start off from and at what stage do I insert the inner tube. I've done it myself many years ago on a motorcycle wheel ...

Re: Singer Le Mans Clutch pressure plate adjustment - Help please!

Hi James, yes that seems to make sense. In any case it is just a starting point - as long as the adjusting screws are turned by equal amounts the pressure plate should remain parallel to the flywheel face. I have to confess I haven't yet tested it properly as the car is some way from being completed...

Re: Singer Le Mans Clutch pressure plate adjustment - Help please!

I set up my clutch a few years ago but I did not make notes and my memory is a bit hazy. As far as I can remember.... Start by measuring the distance from the pressure plate to the inner part of the flange on the clutch housing (where the screw holes are) using a straight edge and steel rule (or ide...

Re: LM Door Pockets

Hello Peter Thanks for the information on the Le Man's door pockets which should come in useful in the not too distant future for my LM restoration (the pictures of your lovely car are certainly an inspiration for me to get a move on). Do the pockets just open straight into the interior of the door ...
